Unless otherwise stated, these lectures and observations are free and open to the public, and do not require a reservation.

Exoplanets and How to Find Them

Modern astronomy techniques have discovered a number of planets orbiting other stars. These 鈥渆xoplanets鈥� exhibit a remarkable diversity despite being built from the same building blocks as our solar system. These worlds vary in size, composition, distance from their host star, and temperature, and include exotic planets not seen in our own solar system. In this talk we will explore the fascinating range of exoplanets discovered to date, from massive Jupiter-like worlds orbiting close to their star to so-called 鈥渨ater worlds.鈥� We will delve into the methods used to detect these planets and discuss the potential for exoplanets to support life.
