Institute for Career Development and
Graduate School Planning (ICG)
In support of a successful career
The Republic Bank Foundation Institute for Career Development and Graduate School Planning provides services that guide individuals in the process of career development, enabling effective career decision making and work-force readiness. Services include career advising, graduate school advising, and student support for the University’s experiential learning requirement. This Institute assists individuals with resume writing, interview skills, co-ops and internships, and networking skills as well as other career-related needs.
Students & Alumni
The ICG assists students in many ways depending on the needs of the student. Below are examples of support ICG can provide:
- Resumes, cover letters, letters of interest
- Career exploration, advising, and coaching
- Job search strategies and skills; networking opportunities
- LinkedIn Prep and Navigation
- Use of the Joe Raphael ICG Studio for recording mock interviews and self-promotional videos
- Support to identify experiential learning opportunities such as internships and co-ops
- Graduate school information
Please Note: the ICG does not house a running list of employment opportunities or internships but supports students through the process of obtaining employment or internships starting with the resume. When a student reaches out for assistance, the ICG helps to make sure their resume is professional and near perfect. The ICG instructs students on how to search for internships and network through the process, providing the student with three-to-five links to internships that fit their needs. By following these steps, the ICG assists students in what they should be looking for and further supports them through the process. ICG does not place students into internships but supports the student and provides autonomy during their search.
Faculty
The ICG assists faculty in many ways to support student success. Examples include:
- Class Presentations: ICG offers presentations on a variety of topics related to career exploration. Topics currently available include resumes, cover letters, interviewing excellence, LinkedIn, and elevator speech. Due to staffing limitations, ICG must be selective in the number and type of class presentations that are available. Please schedule in advance.
- Guide to Ethical and Legal Standards in Student Hiring: Helping students in their job search can result in accidental illegal or unethical action. The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) has developed a faculty guide that addresses these issues. It explicitly addresses the issues surrounding candidate referrals. Faculty and staff should also not screen candidates for employers. to review the guide.
- Use of the Joe Raphael ICG Studio for recording mock interviews, self-promotional videos, conference calls, virtual interviews.
